Persuasive Speech: Same sex marriages General Purpose: To persuade Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade the audience to agree that same-sex marriages should not be legal Central Idea: The audience will realize the vices and social disorders created by legalization of same sex marriages in order to preserve marital norms INTRODUCTION I. Same sex marriage is a trending topic if not a trendy one. Countries throughout the globe are pressured with the question of homosexuality being an issue of right or morality. Countries such as Brazil, Canada, some states of the United States and the United Kingdom have legalized same sex marriages while others are still battling with homosexual pressure. II. Today, I would like to discuss with you the unnatural nature of same sex marriages. III I have carried out extensive research on the field of sexuality and I feel obliged to educate the public about the dangers of same sex marriages to our society, today and in the future. IV. So today I am going to discuss three points about this issue. Number One: why same sex marriage should not be legalized? Number Two: what are the adverse impacts of same sex marriages in our society? Number Three: what Measures can be implemented to discourage same sex marriages? Transition: So let's talk about why same sex marriage should not be legalized BODY 1. First of all, why should same sex marriage not be legalized? A. Legally, a same sex marriage is a union between two people of the same sexual orientation in a marital relationship. The United States does not grant the tittle 'spouse' to couple involved in same sex marriages. As such, same sex marriage should not be legalized as a natural marital union. B. Same sex marriages are against natural law. Human relationships are rooted in natural law which helps them recognize what is morally right or wrong. An association in matrimony with the evasion of the purpose of sexual act is in direct violation of natural law and morality. According to the letter of Paul to the Romans, natural law is inscribed in every heart (Rom. 2:14-15). C. Same sex marriages defeat the main reason of Benefiting Marriage; a marriage is bestowed numerous benefits for it provides conducive atmosphere for an affectionate, stable, loving and moral environment for proper nurturing of children. A same marriage is not based on such values as its primary objective is gratification of individuals involved in a sterile union. Same sex marriage does not produce children the natural way. This is because the union is basically sterile. The only way they can get children is by following expensive and artificial procedure such as artificial insemination and use of surrogates. The same sex marriage cannot therefore be called a marriage with its natural intention of creating a family. D. Same sex marriage is a sin against God. Marriage was established by God in paradise for the association of Adman ad Eve. In the book of genesis1:28-29 "God created man in His image; in the Divine image he created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them, saying: 'Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it'". God punished Sodom and Gomorrah because of engaging in homosexuality (Gen. 19:24-25). Transition: Now that we have seen why same sex marriages should not be legalized, let's now look at their effects on the society. II. Same sex marriages cause the following problems to the society. A. Same sex marriages are a hub for health risks impacting on themselves and others. According to statistics on the health of homosexuals, it is revealed that homosexuals do not live long as compared to heterosexuals and billions of dollars are used annually to provide healthcare for them. The homosexuals have a high prevalence rate for HIV/AIDS epidemic. The disease has since spread to other heterosexuals as homosexuals maintain many sexual partners. See Statistics on HIV/AIDS and health related issues. B. Deterioration of societal morals as the morals of the minority is obliged on the majority. 1. Due to the high pressure on the homosexuals, activists spring out to defend the morals rights of the homosexuals. Legalization of same sex marriages therefore requires that the majority of the population is forces to oblige by the values which are spiritually, naturally and morally wrong. 2. Although the homosexuals have a very low percentage of the society of less than 5%, the remaining 95% of the population is forced on homosexual's morals by various media such as television, movies, political periods and literature. See Statistics on the percentage of the population that are homosexual and lesbian. C. Same sex marriages deny children a natural home environment. 1. They deny their children either their natural mother or father ignoring the best interest of their children to having both their natural father and mother. 2. Their children suffer the same fate as orphans or children raised by single parents, foster parents or relative guardians. 3. Children are also deprived of a mother of father role model. This is because they will not be raised by their father or mother figures with blood relations. D. Children are exposed to a redefinition of sexual morality and other sexually related practices which can be harmful to the growth of children. 1. Same sex practices exposure causes immoral practices and behaviors among children caused by reduction in conservative sexual morals and exposing children to immoral practices such as; a) Child pornography b) Prostitution c) Sex trafficking d) Pedophilia e) Pornography 2. According to Judith Stacey, a sociologist and an advocate for same-sex civil marriage, report on the outcome of children raised by lesbian parents show that children are freed from their traditional sexual prescription such that daughters become more masculine and sons become more feminine. She also reports that homosexual children exhibit gender and sexual disorders (Stacey, J., 2013). Transition: Knowing the significant bearing of same sex marriages, we should advocate for their illegality by discouraging the practice. III. Some Measures can be adopted to discourage same sex marriages A. Prevent adoption of children by same sex couples. The artificial means used by homosexuals to get children are very expensive and mostly they prefer adopting children. Since same sex marriages cannot create children the natural way, prohibiting them from adopting children can discourage them from having families which many will not be able to live with. Thus, they will have natural relationships between women and men in order to have children. This will reduce the number of homosexuals willing to get married. B. Teaching children in school about sexuality and the dangers associated with same sex marriages. Same sex marriages cause major wrongs in the society which influence the future generations. They threaten the institution of marriage as same sex couples are not able to stay married for long as compared to natural couples; they are also not faithful to their partners, which cause the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually related diseases. Teaching young children in school such dangers will reduce the chances of them ever engaging in same sex relationships. Transition: By following the mentioned measures, we would be on a right track in ending same sex marriages. CONCLUSION I. You all understand now how unnatural same sex marriages are. It is a union that threatens the family union, natural rearing of children and the future generations. Same sex marriages are also prohibited in the bible. We also know that same sex marriages can be stopped by measures such as preventing same sex couples from adopting children and also teaching school children the dangers of homosexuality. II. Today I would like to ask to disagree with any attempt of legalizing same sex marriages.
